Taking a good picture is satisfying!

Those of us who love to handle a camera and create great shots that no one else can call their own try in every outing to capture that picture that will define photography, and that one picture, as the best up until now.

I have always looked at taking pictures with an eye to making the best shot possible. I am always thinking that maybe today I will come across something out there that will be different and fantastic and maybe even a keeper.

To get the best shot possible, is not easy and, as a photographer, one has to basically turn over rocks to see what is behind or under or next to or around the scene that you are pointing your lense at.

Many times I have been standing on a good shot and didn't know it until I moved away and came back and took that great picture.

One phase of photography that has been missed these days is black and white picture taking and that is where my passion is most of the time. Some great colour shots can be turned into fantastic and spectacular black and white pictures with the advent of digital photography.

I will keep trying to do my best and achieve one day what I will call the best picture I have ever taken.

Mikey, well said. The B&W has a place.

Hi Mike

I agree. We are always looking for the best shot we can find.

For me, photography gives me the chance to capture those elusives moments that
happen but once.

Isn't it amazing that just moving a few feet forward or backward, or to one side or the other can reveal a gem.

I, too, am a big fan of black and white photography, which shows another side of the subject that color can't quite catch.

Keep shooting, Mike.

Like the surfer looking for the perfect wave, may you find the perfect scene.

David, thanks for your response [and also to John McElroy as well] for showing interest in the blog which is a new concept for me.

It was good to read your first blog Mike. I was always a dark-room B/W worker untill I needed new hips and could not stand at my bench any longer. Like you I am still looking for "that shot". I'm sure I'll take it tomorrow.

Thanks Roy. I love your sense of humour . . . . and your picture taking too.

Hi. Like the others I totaly agree,we are always hoping that around the corner there will be a great shot that no one else will capture. As for black and white I love it, some pictures just do not look right in colour. I am really annoyed as much as I love my new camera I cannot do black and white with it, with my old Fuji 9500, it had black and white mode, so now I have to take both cameras every time that I go out.

The only problem is Mikey once you get what you think is the perfect shot you have raised your own standards and expectations and aim for even better. No bad thing I reckon.Kay your black and white dilemma can be solved by shooting in colour and converting your images to black and white in an image editor.Photoshop Elements 6 has a pretty nifty black and white converter that is very easy and intuitive to use why don't you check it out? This would save you from carrying two cameras with you and give you the best of both worlds.

Regards,Les.

Good idea for Kay from Les and I was just about to suggest the same thing.

Colour shots can easily be changed into B&W with most software imagery programs and it is a matter of choice which one you use. The better ones, usually more expensive, have more options but one can get by with the basic software as well.

So now, let's go out there and capture a perfect B&W shot this week. Well, perfect is a tall order I guess.

Thanks for all of your comments; appreciated.
