Shadows

I just got a new Olympus E-510 for Christams. For the first time I have shadows in the photos that I have taken in doors. I know the shadows are mine, but how do I go about shoting and avoid the shadows. Does anyone know?

Hi katmouse47 could you tell me if you are using a strobe to light your photos or are you using natural light?Also posting a photo displaying the problem might help to throw some light on the issue.{pun intended}
