Using Auction sites to sell prints

There are different websites that can be classed as sales sites, but for your photography, these are usually places that you can sell your products or services.

As a photographer if you are selling a product, a great idea is to sell on a website like eBay or Etsy to begin with – if you can make a name for yourself on these websites then you can convince them to visit your personal website in the future and save money in commission.

Websites like eBay, Yahoo Auctions and iOffer have a huge scope. People around the world will see your work and although it can be costly if you are selling a lot of items, it is worth it to get your work seen.

A great idea is to send a leaflet with any item you sell to convince the shoppers to visit you at your personal website – for them a free item or 10% off as an incentive for buying direct.

A website like Etsy is not an auction site but is a place where people sell their own homemade and unique items. Once again there is a wide audience and Etsy allow advertising of your own website.

The benefit of using professional sales sites is that although you pay commission you do not have to worry about any of the funds reaching you – the site will take care of all that and tell the buyer that they are legally obliged once they make a purchase.

Remember to add all your expenses to the price of the item. Do not over charge but do remember to include everything into the shipping costs – bubble wrap, envelope, stamp etc.

Make sure you are set up and ready to produce your services. There is no point at all, in selling items you do not have at hand or you have not already made as most people will expect items to arrive the next day or so.
