Hi folks.
I expect you are wondering what that title is all about. Well, I drive an automatic car because of my hip problems. The first one I had was quite some years ago, and at that time my mother was still alive but in hospital. As I was visiting her at least once a day, and sometimes twice, conversation was a little stilted on times. One particular day, I was sat by her bed wondering what to talk about next, then it hit me, I'll tell her about my new car. "Mam" I said, "I had a new car today" "A new car, what do you want to go spending your money on a new car for when the other one is still alright?"
"Well" I said, "you know the trouble I have been having with my legs, it's got worse lately and I couldn't lift my leg over onto the clutch, so I decided to go automatic, and that's the new car I have bought" "Oh" Just then Mam's friend, Blodwyn came back into the ward. Mam shouted, "What do you think of our Roy Blod, he had to get a new car because He couldn't get his leg over in the other one" Mam could not understand why everyone in the ward was rolling about laughing. Mam was so naive, I'm sure someone else had the six children for her.
Another time I visited her, Mam's bed was empty. "Wheres Mam Blod" I asked, "Oh, gone to the toilet" Blod replied. When Mam came back, she was carrying a zimmer walking frame. "What are you carrying that for Mam" I asked. "Well" Mam said, "the doctor told me not to go anywhere without it".
Just a couple of the lovely memories I have of Mam.
On Saturday Ena and I are off to Scarborough for a weeks holiday, try and keep davles in line while I am away.
Ah, here's Ena now with a steaming mug of cocoa and my medication.
Respect everyone, Roy.
