Hi Folks
It's the weekend again already.
Now that it's November, the month of remembrance, or should I say the month that we show our feelings for the war dead more openly, I, as a member of the Royal British Legion shall be attending, and photographing the ceremony at the Cenotaph in Merthyr town center. A couple of years ago I wrote a poem for merthyrstories.org.uk for Remembrance Sunday. I then took photos to use with the poem to make it into a digital picture story. If you don.t mind, I will share it with you now.

Remembrance.
Wet poppies red, weep for the dead.
They died that we might live.
Young soldiers, old, daring and bold.
They gave all that they had to give.
Tears in their eyes, they say their goodbyes,
To comrades they will not see again.
Remember them well, remember them, tell,
The world, they did not die in vain.

Wet poppies red, weep for the dead.
Feet wearing slippers or boots.
Shuffle along to a long ago song,
That takes them right back to their roots.
Wearing bowlers and cherries, medals and berets,
Marching along to the band.
Shoulder to shoulder, the grow older and older.
Remember, blood, sweat, tears, and sand.

Wet poppies red, let the parade be led,
by the spirit of those who stayed,
In a field far away, at the end of their day.
While their loved ones hoped and prayed.
In a field coloured red, laid fallen the dead.
In a field, in the sun, wind and rain.
Peace perfect peace let the tears release.
Till we meet, till we meet, once again.

On a lighte note. I have had a great week. If I were to rate it like a picture, I would say 8 Excellent. Swimming every morning, taking pics of the lovely colours most afternoons, and monday night we had a great time at the Camera Club. It was a competition night, prints and digitally projected images. Les won best print, I came second, Les won the best digital image, I came second. I'm getting a bit fed up with Les to be honest, he seems to be pipping me at all the competitions lately. Les by the way, is my very good friend who I have just persuaded to join MyShots, he will be known as davles. Watch out for his work, it's brilliant, well perhaps not brilliant, great, well very good, well, please don't tell him about this blog and I can be honest with you, it's ok. Oh all right then, judge for yourselves.

Here's my wife now, bringing me my medication and cocoa. Must go, speak to you next week.
Roy.

Roy, that was a lovely poem and, if you don't mind, I would like to retype it and use it on Remembrance Day here in Canada on the 11th of November. I will actualy read your poem before our family meal on that day. I hope this is okay with you.

I recall one year, Rose and I were traveling in Europe during November and we were wearing the red poppies on our clothes as we do back in Canada. Ironically, we were asked by an American couple what the red poppy was all about and that actually floored us. Not sure why they didn't know about the poppy or had ever seen it before but it was kind of a shock. We did tell them and they did indicate it was a great idea for remembering.

We thank the veterans not only on Rememberance Day but every day because of them we are free. It is always appreciated. Thanks. Mike

Thank you Mike. Yes of course you can use the poem, and to make sure you know this, I'll reply privately.
Les thank you for your comment on the poem.
Now about the Camera club competition, havent you realised yet that I just enter ordinary stuff to give you and other club members a chance. I mean, do I want to be "Photographer of the Year" every year?
