What an amazing photograph. The vivid colours of the monoliths coupled with the blue of the sky and the greys and whites of the clouds. It must have been spectacular to be there in person.

Certainly a great shot Les - vivid colours, but I think the amount of foreground shadow unbalances it.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate all of your comments. Yes it was amazing to be there,it was an experience I will never forget, and it has won a few competitions on the camera club circuit here at home.
As for the foreground shadow there was nothing I could have done or wanted to do about it,slide film has a latitude of a half stop either side of correct, so if I had exposed to reveal lots of insignificant foreground detail it would have resulted in the rocks in the middle distance becoming overexposed and the sky would have been washed out.If I had used a neutral density grad over the sky to balance things up the image would have looked unnatural, instead I opted to trust my instincts and use light and shade to aesthetic effect because I would never have another opportunity to witness such a spectacle again.
There is no second chance with slide film and unlike digital capture you cannot review your shots instantly, checking the histogram as you shoot.I had to wait two weeks before I saw the result,we are spoiled these days with the amazing technical advantages of our digital cameras.

Les.

Have been there in 2001. It is a beautiful place indeed. One of the most impressing places I have ever seen. The light stuation you had,
makes the picture magnificent.

Thanks for the comments Rhonda, Marco and sentence.I was very fortunate to catch the wonderful light at this particular time.I got there with ten minutes to spare, once the sun went down that was it, nothing to photograph.

Regards,Les.
