Description
In the dead of winter, this cardinal was determined on putting his color in my photo. I am glad he did!

This photo has all the elements available to be a winning photo. Just a few suggestions. This looks like it was shot through a screen door or a screened window. That puts a distracting pattern on all the photo - it would have been a lot better to step outside it at all possible. I would also suggest zooming in quite a bit on the Cardinal in this shot - the bird is so small in this frame - it was even hard to tell what the "splash of color" was unless I downloaded the larger file. Good eye for what could make a great photo. Good title on the photo as well.

I agree, the artistic intent is right on the money, but the circumstance didn't allow. I've been there too. The perfect shot but there was something in the way. I always take the first available shot, because we don't know if that bird will be gone in a microsecond or not.

I like it though, even still. It does something that a perfectly framed and unobscurred shot doesn't. Make me feel like i'm home. That is a scene many canadians are familiar with. I lived on a farm as a child and this image evokes some very positive thoughts of the past. I would never be the one to dismiss an image purely out of coffee table book philosophy. Sometimes I really love seeing a more 'behind the scene' or in the scene feel.

I really like this image.
