Thanks Graham,the picture was taken using a Canon 400d with my newly purchased Canon 55-250mm IS zoom lens attached. A monster lens was not needed here because I was shooting the surfers from Crystal Pier.

No it's me on the board, I set my camera up on a tripod and tripped the shutter as I took off using an infrared remote release purchased on Ebay from NASA

This is the right moment. The perspective you waited for the surfer to intersect created exciting foreshortening that increased your amount of image space for the water's natural design. It completed your composition and made your image dynamic.
