Description
I took this photo, to get the texture of the chain. Initially the shell grit and sand in the background was very distracting. I decided to solarize the background to reduce the detail while still complementing the overall composition.

There is some great potential in this shot but unfortunately the solarization has been counter productive here destroying the great texture which you initially captured.
I would suggest using two layers, sepia tone the top layer and paint the chain back in from the bottom layer .This would have the effect of emphasizing the rusty chain whilst drawing attention away from the background.
