I like this. Very clear and crisp. How did you get her to stay still long enough.

I didn't really, used a fast speed and called her to get her to pause and listen for a split second (anyone who tries to photograph hens will know that they are always moving, and she is free range, not 'tame') I only got one chance and it captured her inquisitive look beautifully.

Why the filter? I ask because it doesn't look like this image needs any masking.

It looks like the original photograph is great... but based on this I can only comment on something a little 'filtered'

The framing and the subject is great, I love photographing chickens. We used to have barred rocks. They are the only animal I've seen trying to get through the same patch of fence (unsuccessfully) for more then 4 hours.

I'd love to see more... sans photoshop filter?

I went back and looked at the images in my file - yes, this has an edge filter. I normally mention in the description if i've done anything to the images, but this one slipped by as it was with the original and I've downloaded the filtered one because it looked a little sharper in the thumbnails. That'll teach me to check. The original is a little softer in the feathering, still beautifully sharp in the eye - important! I have a variety of hens, all with their own personality quirks. This one is very good at hiding her nests LOL.
