Description
Junkanoo is the National Festival of the Islands of The Bahamas. It represents our roots, it is our heritage. Junkanoo was practised by the slaves who came to The Bahamas during the 16th century. Junkanoo was named after Jone Canoe, a West African trader Prince thought of by many to be the hero of the slaves. In his book Bahamas Junkanoo Annual, author Anthony L. Morley describes Junkanoo this way: "...Junkanoo captures Bahamian ingenuity, artistry, creative powers and the national aspirations for excellence..." To experience Junkanoo, you must visit The Bahamas.
