Fungi make a great subject, but are so much better as macros or at least when you get down at ground level (or wherever it is) and fill the foreground. If you don't like getting familiar with the dirt and leeches (do you have them?) then carry a large plastic bag in your pocket and use it to help you stay dry and un-bitten by crawling things.

To me, I would do at least some cropping to take it away from the centre of the frame, it's a bit lost in all that greenery. what I really like though, is the way it's standing in a pool of light - well captured.

Yeah, wide shots don't really work well with something that small. At least not THAT wide. I think a vertical zoomed in about 200% would be right to capture the mushroom in it's environment. If this were my shot, I would crop it right down for web. It may not be printable but at least it's not a photo of a mushroom 2 miles away.

The shaft of light i captured the mushroom in was fleeting and was more of a fluke on a cloudy fall day.The mushroom was not the only subject. The depth of green and yellow foliage speaks to me.This shot is also unedited.
