Hi Everyone, my discussion is a simple one really, the question is for Kojak, but I would like everyone else's opinion.
When I first joined this community a few weeks ago, one of my major likes about this site was none of this nude photography which you find all over the other sites. I know it's still art, but not all of us enjoy it. There are children who use this site.
Yesterday, after having a whole heap of feedback on the forums week before last, I posted 2 photo's of my nieces wedding, to try and get feedback from the guys as to what I was doing wrong. This morning they are gone, so obviously don't deserve feedback. Thanks. Yet again this morning there is another nude photo? Is this site going the same way as all the others? Sorry to sound like a moaner, but I genuinely am worried. Thanks for reading. Let me know what YOU think guys. Lynn

Hey Lynn!
As you can see there is no Act category in the site so I'm not sure it's Kojak's fault. Actually, I'm happy with it because many people misunderstand the meaning of act. You can see many pictures taken from breasts and nude bodies. That's not act photography. It takes ages to earn proficiency in that subject matter. That's why I'd never try it at all. But! There are many beautiful act pitures around the web and to tell the truth I'd better like my children to see a woman naked first in a picture like that rather than in a porn magazine of a friend at school... Those two pictures are not that dangerous at all anyway, are they?
About family pictures... I've got a great deal of shots taken on family reunions and stuff but I'd never upload them to public. But thats only my opinion. Some like to share them. It is not our opinions what matters anyway. If your daughter likes them you can call them great pictures. And I'm sure she does.
I wish you all te best and good lights.
Szilard

(I hope I didn't make any mistakes what would make me being rude. If I did, I'm terribly sorry. That wasn't my intention at all.)

Hi Caesar, Thanks for your comments. I am definately not offended by anything you say. I do appreciate your comments, we all have our opinions and that was what I was asking for. As for my wedding photo's, I feel I need to explain in a little more depth. I am relatively new to photography, and four weeks ago my sister asked me would I take the evening photo's of my neice's wedding. I didn't want to let her down, so I posted a forum on here, asking advice from a few of the better established photographers, as to what I needed to do to get the best out of my camera for indoor shots, because I don't usually take them. The guys on here were brilliant, they gave me a lot of excellent advice and tips. They also asked me to post a couple of the shots, so that they could tell me where I might have gone wrong. I also would not normally post family shot's, but how am I to improve, if the shots I took cannot be critiqued by the same people who gave me the original tips. I do appreciate that this site was established for good photo's, but we all need help sometimes, and most of the people on this site actually don't mind doing that. As for it not being Kojak's fault, he is adminastrator of this site, it is he who removes photo's, so who's fault is it? Lynn

Woops. Sorry. I don't know why I thought it was your doughter's wedding.
I'm fairly sure things will get cleared up soon. If I can help you anyway or you'd like any advice about a picture (and you'd accept mine as a proper one ) just PM me and I will help you.
Regards. Szilard

I think that this is really centered in the fact that Kojak would like the photos posted to be in their "final format" with all composition, exposure and other technical details already worked out.

I think that a very workable remedy for the situation of desiring feedback on photos that "are not quite there yet" would be the forums here on Myshots. Kojak could add a forum called "Photo Help" or some other appropriate title where forum messages could be posted with photos embedded in them for feedback. The photos could then be viewed by the members that have access to the forums and feedback given. Then, once the poster of that photo felt like they have had enough feedback on their work and had made the needed improvements/changes, the photo could be re-submitted to the main photo area.

A photo critique-based forum here I think would get used and many members may find it helpful. This is my suggestion at least for wanting to submit work for review. As for work of an adult nature - Kojak has assured me that this site is family oriented and safe for work viewing. He was going to keep the reigns pretty tight on that kind of work.

Polli, I should have recognized your name . I think you have the right to expect people to fairly critique the photos. Rather than posting them in the regular section try this : create an account (free) at www.photobucket.com , then upload your photos on their website into My Albumn. Sent an e-mail to whoever you want on this website to critique your photos by cut and pasting the Http for the photo on www.photobucket from your albumn into your message. I've done this with several posters here . Its fast and easy to do . Dave92706

I can reassure you we will not tolerate any nudity whatsoever here on myshots.
My moderators and myself reserve the right to delete any offending images straight away without giving any reason. That also applies to bad/tasteless/... shots that just don't belong here.

If there are any concerns about certain images, it is always possible to contact us and we will have a look.

Dear everyone poli dave caeser kojak drummerboy all of you

the human body is an inspiration for both artists and scientists and it is

really a marvelous atractive machine.Such photos are seen on TV commercials and

no one is throwing his TV set out of the window,I bet that if i post a photo of

semi naked male bodybuilder no one would talk about it,and body builders are almost naked in most of their photos because they need to show their muscles

if you are concerned about little kids i tell you that porn websites are all over the net and they show everything and pornographic films can be downloaded for free with free programs.

i saw the 2 photos everybody is mentioning it is not really nudity nothing is to be seen that we can not see on the sea shore.

At last sorry if i offended anyone ,i did not mean to, i was just making a point not fighting over a silly matter

Thank you everyone for your comments. They are most appreciated. Thank you Kojak for answering my question. If this topic wound anybody up, I humbly apologise. My intention was not to offend, or criticise. I really do not object to the photo's in question, they are very artistic, my only real query was would photo's which went further than art be taken off as quickly as those which don't quite come up to scratch. I appreciate Privateidaho's comment regarding perhaps another part of this site where we could get better advice on photo styles which we find confusing. It is quite difficult to describe the mistakes you are making without the photo to back it up. Again I did not mean to start a riot on here, and am very sorry if I did. Thanks again guys. Lynn

Having just read this dialogue from the beginning, I want to say first that I'm impressed with the civility of it; kudos to each of you for keeping the passion of his opinions in check. Here's my two cents: I'm glad that Kojack has and exercises the right to remove photos that are not up to his discerning standards. If that power did not reside with a single administrator, the site might be overrun with amateurs seeking advice in a short while, and even if it were not overrun, people in search of quality images would have to sift through a greater volume of material to find what they were looking for. I agree with PrivateIdaho, however, that an alternate forum for photographers seeking feedback is an excellent idea for Kojack to explore (if he is so inclined). As for the issue of nude photography, I must admit, I'm rather disappointed to learn that it is strictly not allowed. Nude images should, in my opinion, be subject to the same standards as the other photography on this site; if the pictures are in good taste (that is, not obscene or pornograhic) and otherwise up to par, I see no reason why they should be barred for content. The human form, after all, is ancient and enduring inspiration for art of all kinds.

I was very surprised to see that this one had reared it's ugly head again. I'm almost sorry I started it. Although I agree with a lot of the points made in this new posting, it would have been much more poignant had the author chosen to reveal his/her identity.

Polli103,

The penultimate posting above was from me (known on this site as mledbettergmailcom, and, in the larger world, just as Maggie). I did not purposely conceal my identity before; I assumed my identity would be revealed via avatar upon posting. Apparently, that is not the case though. I can't seem to figure out how to change that setting, in fact, so this post, too, will probably appear anonymous. Anyway, I'm new to the site, and just stumbled upon this dialogue last night. I didn't realize how old it was, or I proabably would not have added my two cents. It certainly was not my intention to unearth something old and ugly, or cause you to regret starting what was, in my opinion, a valid discussion, and one that I thought you all had treated with an admirable respect for one another's views. Sorry for the commotion. Sincerely, Maggie

To mledbetttermailcom; I think your post probably appeared anonymous because you did not check the remember box when you signed in.This has happened to me several times before I worked out what was going on.As for amateurs seeking advice, well whats wrong with that? The majority if not all the participants on this site are probably amateurs with differing levels of ability who not only wish to share their images but also seek constructive feedback in order to advance their knowledge and hone their skills. One of the best ways to learn photography is to look at lots of images and study their composition and lighting to see what does and does not work, this is where a site such as this one becomes invaluable.
