I have my eye on the new Nikon D300s - has anyone bought this already or have any thoughts on it?

I'm a Canon user so I'm not offering first hand advice but from the reviews I've read and the spec sheet at www.bhphotovideo.com looks like you can't go wrong with this choice, the $1800.00 price tag should also be a hint about the capabilities & quality. Good Luck

Maybe you should look into the older D300 instead and save several hundred dollars. There is almost nothing worth having on the newer, more expensive D300s. You could buy yourself a nice 18-200 lens. Good luck. Arizjim

I originally was going to buy a D300 and waited until the D90 came out . I just got back from Italy and shot 1500 frames. I was so happy that I waited and bought the D90. The D300s is a great camera. A fellow worker bought one and after playing around with it, I found it to be quite heavy, especially after hanging around my neck for a while. If your doing studio work and using a tripod then maybe its a good choice of camera but then with the Video feature now built in , it doesn't make much sense to have such a heavy camera and shoot video with it when camcorders are small and lightweight with better video editing features buit in. If you need to shoot action shots then the D300s may have some advantages but I would opt for the D300 or D90 and get a good set of lens.

A great photo begins in the mind not in a camera lens.
