Remember fixed lens cameras with optical zoom usually have a really bad quality picture at maximum zoom - perhaps you are better off moving closer

in a case of really too far I can think about camcorder - you can found some with X32 or up for very low price - miniDV camcorders are going low in price - but because you will use the card - it does not matter. Anyway the quality of huge zooms is questionable - and you would not have better quality on camera. I will advice some combination of a point and shoot with a small telescope with T adapter.
