Is there anyway we can find out who has downloaded our photographs, espcially when we don't offer any different licences and everything is on normal Copyright rules.

I think it would be good to know who has a copy of the photograph and what they are going to do with it.

I agree. It really makes me nervous that someone is downloading and I don't know who or why and what they will do with it. I am new to the site and my photos may not be proffessional but they are mine. I am not going to upload my best until I am comfortable with this site and the downloading is something I don't understand yet.

This is indeed a sensitive issue. Some of the people who have downloaded my images have let me know they did and told me what they were doing with them. This should be standard procedure. I feel a lot better knowing what my images are being used for and by whom.

Tony

This is an issue that has bothered me so much after I found out that many of my photos were frequently downloaded and getting hits exceeding 150. One of my images got almost two hundred hits , was downloaded 17 times and no one gave a reason why. That was the last straw for me and I subsequently deleted all of my images . I shall now refrain from posting any more photos until I feel more comfortable about this issue.

I'm feeling a bit unconfortable as to some of my photos being downloaded and not knowing what is happening to them, strange that some photos are downloaded but do not qualify for a comment!

I agree snowbird, as I previously stated, this happened to me far to often for comfort.

What kind of pictures you download here, mine usually something like 100X700 pixels. It is fine if somebody want to place it on the wall (I would love to have some comments about it for sure), but it is not good enough for any commercial use. So let it be at rest, I can not say that I worry too much, from another side - if you are worry - there are the ways to make security to your picture, from simple setting of EXIF data, to special security programs. I think that download is the only way on this site to see pictures in the size more then a poststamp, it is why it is downloaded frequently.

Perhaps I am one of the guilty parties, the thumbnails displayed are to small to see any detail so I click on them to increase the size. If the print is interesting to me I then downloaded it to get a bigger view, having done that I then delete it, Nothing sinister just dodgy eyesite, which I am sure is the general case.
I do however write a comment if the photo justifies it.

I think we have imaginations run a muck on this issue to be honest. You know going into this site that people are allowed to download them - so why the sudden concern? I download almost every photo that I comment on so that my comments can be the most detailed (and hopefully helpful) comments that they can be.

I can almost guarantee all of you that a large MAJORITY of the downloads of your photos are not by "bandits" but simply people wanting a better view of your fine work.

Ok so some of us including myself might be overly concerned about this issue but surely if you download a photo you should have the good manners to at least inform the author. For goodness sake how long does it take to give a rating and a brief comment e.g. downloaded for easier viewing. This would probably be a non-issue if the photos opened up to a more comfortable size for viewing, maybe something the site owner should consider.

I simply post low quality, low rez versions of my images and I embed a tiny watermark and a special code in the exif. If anyone attempts to claim credit for one of my images, The embeded info is all I need to nail him/her. If you don't know how to embed this data simply post your images in low resolution and low quality. This should discourage image thieves.
