I am flattered that many of my photographs are being downloaded. I would ask, however, that, in keeping with the recommendation in the MyShots Terms of Use, those who download photographs would comment on the photograph and specify how the downloaded photograph is to be used.

I am sure that this issue has been discussed many times in various forums, and I apolgize for being redundant.

I am in agreeance with Charlie, whilst I am not concerned about what happens with the image. It's a bit disapointing to see your image has been download several time and yet no feed back or comments have been offered.

My 2 cents worth. Soap box put away!

Cheers

I would say that most photos "downloaded" are a product of wanting to see a larger version so that helpful critiques can be added to your photo. I know that for most photos that I take the time to comment on, I will preview the larger version so that my comments can be most appropriate for that photo.

There are things you just cannot see in the smaller versions. With this being the case, I am not saving the file for later use to my hard drive or anywhere else - simply pulling the photo data down into the Windows photo previewer to take and look and then when the previewer is closed - the photo is gone. (Once I delete my internet cache - its really gone for good as well.)

I would not mistake 3 downloads of one of your photos as three people saving a copy for their personal use. In fact, I think its quite the opposite. People just want to see a nice photo in a slightly larger format.

I will preview the larger version of a photo many times and not leave comments. Just how it goes, nothing grabs me about the photo and so no comments are left. You will never have a perfect one to one ratio of downloads to comments. I can almost guarantee you that.

That is on any site - not just this one.

Soap Box

Whilst I understand and do exactley the same as you P.I. I have seen an images downloaded more than 12 times (not mine) with no comment added that has to disheartening. As in previuos post, I personally don't care what happens to my image once posted here, as long as it's used for good not evil. After all we put our photography here for review good or bad!

i agree with you guys we post our photos because we need feed back if it is good we want to make it better or even perfect so we need the encouragement and suggestions of both the viewers and the downloaders,we want to know what the viewer and downloader think about our shot and why he or she downloaded it and what feeling did it give him.

While I understand your concerns regarding feedback on your photos - it is unrealistic in this site or any other to receive the amount of feedback that we feel we all should get on our work.

You have to just take what you get gratefully and and learn what you can from it. With the amount of photos that people are posting at one time, many photos get shuffled to page three quicker than ever. That is a product of the site growing and no strict limitations on the numbers of photos that can be posted at one time per user (a restriction that a lot of similar sites have).

Just add that to the description of your image when you upload one, you can add your email too and ask people to email you if they use your image in any kind of way.

Yeah, another vote for either larger display images or a intermediate size (like 1024x76 which pops up in a new window. I have downloaded many images just to see past the little artifacted thumbnail, but then find nothing worth commenting about. I admit, I have contributed to the download/comment ratio.
