Veteran BBC natural history presenter Sir David Attenborough will next month receive a prestigious award from the Royal Photographic Society (RPS).

Sir David is in line for this year's Progress Medal, which he will receive along with an Honorary Fellowship.

'Sir David's contribution to natural history, heralded for popular documentaries including The Living Planet and The Trials of Life, has changed how we see the natural world forever,' said an RPS spokesman.

Former winners of the accolade include artist David Hockney, and Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web.

Held each year, the annual RPS Awards aim to recognise those who have made an 'outstanding contributions to the art and science of photography.'

Sir David will receive his award at a ceremony in central London next month.
